Bethany Brown

Bethany leverages AARP’s influence for older Americans and older persons around the world at the United Nations and across various fora in New York. She started Human Rights Watch’s program of work on older people’s human rights in its Disability Rights Division. Bethany has also worked for the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs Programme on Ageing, focusing on the human rights aspects of intergenerational solidarity and equity for future generations. Previously, she served the International Disability Alliance, and HelpAge USA.  She has been an advocate for older persons at the United Nations in the fields of human rights, humanitarian aid, and development since 2010. Bethany received her bachelor’s degree from Barnard College of Columbia University, and her juris doctorate from American University Washington College of Law.
