AARP International

what we do, we do for all

The face of the world is aging. By 2050 adults over 60 will total 2.1 billion. In some countries, today’s 10-year-old has a 50% chance of living to 104—making the 100-year life no longer a news story but something to plan for.

No question, the uncharted waters mean challenges ahead. But they also mean opportunity. Regardless, this unprecedented demographic shift demands an accompanying shift in thinking—a rethinking of how we live, learn, earn, and connect.

AARP helps drive this exciting dynamic. Our Office of International Affairs engages global stakeholders to change how we look at aging and enable people everywhere to pursue their goals and dreams.

OUR PROGRAM

Our international efforts support the overall social mission of AARP and the needs of our 37 million members. AARP is a nonpartisan, nonprofit association based in the US dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all as we age. Since its founding in 1958, AARP has delivered value to its members through advocacy, information, and service. As a social change organization, we work tirelessly to fulfill our vision of a society in which everyone ages with dignity and purpose.  While being a domestic organization, AARP has always had an international perspective and we pride ourselves on being a leader on health and economic security issues and a respected global source of information and advocacy. AARP's Office of International Affairs seeks to help people live longer, healthier, more financially secure and productive lives by identifying and sharing the best ideas and practices on key policy issues. We convene a wide range of experts from around the world to share their knowledge on health and long-term care, older workers, financial security, retirement income, and livable communities.

PARTNERSHIPS

AARP International achieves disproportionate and durable impact by partnering with and influencing powerful international organizations. For decades, we have worked closely with the United Nations, the World Health Organization, and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), among others. More recently, we have partnered with the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, and others to encourage them to institutionalize an age-inclusive approach to their work and investments. By influencing key organizations, AARP has had cascading impact on how governments and policymakers around the world respond to the needs of their older populations.
